Kotzamani: What Mary Didn't Know
Konstantina Kotzamani (b. Greece, 1983) is a screenwriter and director known for her bold, sensuous, and myth-infused short films. Mainstream realism flows seamlessly into heightened reality, shaped by dreamlike scenes and an enigmatic visual style. She is a familiar name at Minimalen: over the years we have screened several of her films, and in 2019 we had the pleasure of welcoming her for a dedicated retrospective.
Mid-length films challenge the traditional boundaries between short and feature formats and can be difficult both to create and to get screened. Yet Kotzamani uses this extended form to deepen her signature vision without losing the immediacy and risk-taking energy that defines her earlier work.

Programme

Among the pensioners aboard the Mediterranean cruise ship Neoromantica, Mary is on holiday with her Swedish family, feeling painfully out of place as an early teen. That is, until she meets Abdel. Under the whimsical Aegean moon, sweet love entwine with the enchantment of Greek myths.
